Shilpa “Shil” Chawla is an engineer who has worked in healthcare management for over 20 years. She is also a certified small business mentor volunteer for a non-profit organization. She was born and raised in India, which is the birthplace of yoga—yet for most of her life, she never practiced it. It wasn’t until she began struggling with persistent back pain that she turned to alternate therapies and yoga, hoping to find some relief. What began as a way to heal the body soon became a journey of self-discovery, mindfulness, and inner strength. She traveled to Rishikesh, India—the birthplace of yoga—to deepen her understanding and train as a teacher. There, she completed the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, where she studied traditional Hatha, Asthanga and Vinyasa yoga, pranayama, meditation, and yogic philosophy. Today, she blends her background in healthcare with a holistic approach to yoga, creating a supportive space for others to heal and reconnect with themselves. Her class focuses on mindful movement and breath awareness for managing pain or recovering from injury—while nurturing a deeper connection between body, mind, and spirit. She believes that yoga and meditation is not about perfection, but about presence.

With a passion for alternative medicine and natural healing modalities, I started my career by receiving my Bachelors in Alternative Medicine from Everglades University and have furthered my education by receiving my certifications in both Reflexology from American Institute of Alternative Medicine and Reiki from Shine Reiki Training. I also plan to further my education in Acupuncture through the American Institute of Alternative Medicine.

As a child and even as an adult I have faced a lot of varying battles with my health, so doctor visits have been a constant norm for me. I live by the mindset that alternative medicine has a way to find you when you need it the most in your life and I can honestly say that is a very true statement. With all of my Alternative Medical knowledge coming when I needed a new balance and shift in my lifestyle.

Outside of my practices in Reflexology and Reiki, I have a passion for learning about different herbs and their healing properties while also enjoying Yoga in my free time. The body is a wonderful and natural thing and should be treated as such. Everyone has their own journey and ailments which makes their healing journey completely different than someone else’s

As cliche as it may sound, acupuncture found me. Prior to starting acupuncture school my background was in social work. I graduated from The Ohio State University and worked in areas such as, equine assisted psychotherapy and drug prevention agencies. I was just a few months out from going to UPENN for my master’s in social work when I was looking through a local natural magazine and saw the local acupuncture school. At the time I was beginning my own curiosity into a more natural lifestyle. I hadn’t had any profound acupuncture experiences prior to deciding to go to acupuncture school like many of my colleagues but for some reason it just felt right. I graduated from American Institute of Alternative medicine in 2016. I had a baby the same year and it was through new experiences of motherhood that I gained additional training in women’s health, pediatrics and birth acupuncture. I started New Day Acupuncture in 2017 and it continues to grow into this beautiful community I am forever grateful for. In addition to New Day, I have been lucky enough to help many kiddos with chronic pain at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Both places hold a special place in my heart. I am thankful you have ventured to New Day and hope you receive the utmost healing you desire!
